I’m Harriet Hobbs
I’ve always had much inspiration
from my heroine of the rhyme,
but when I get as famous as her
I’ll be getting way past me prime.
I’m now 50 folks.
Oh, yes I see you laugh.
I’ll be pushing on for 60
time they want me autograph.
In all the local papers,
they might give me a news report,
but when they get to the interesting bit
I bet they’ll cut me short.
I have me own website,
Yes, one has a little fame
and I get booked at the WIs.
They say we’ll book that poet, what’s err name?
I’ve made a brief appearance on TV,
at a famous town street festival.
There were quite a few acts there.
They looked amazed at my arrival.
One woman said to me,
“I never assumed poetry was an act”.
I said “ Well Pam Ayres made it so”,
but I dunno if I made an impact.
I recited a couple of poems.
They laughed a bit, and then,
they said “Do you do any for children?”
and I thought well that wasn’t ten out of ten.
But never mind, one struggles on.
One day me name maybe in lights.
I maybe at the Palladium
and reaching dizzy heights.
Or, I could be in for disaster,
And remain just “Harriet who?”
I’m Pam Ayres stand in when she can’t come.
Bet I’m cheaper than she is too!
